Het Blauwe Meer in Hoogersmilde is one of the most beautiful recreational lakes in the Netherlands. After an 8-minute drive, you will be standing with your feet in the white sand and looking out over the beautiful blue-green water of Het Blauwe Meer (The Blue Lake). It’s perfect for swimming and sunbathing. This exceptional lake is the legacy of excavations for sand for the sand-lime brick factory, combined with the dark green mineral glauconite in the water. It is a wonderful destination for enjoying a wonderful day by the water!
The Drentse-Friese Wold National Park, one of the largest nature reserves in the Netherlands, is right next to Summio Bungalowpark Het Drentse Wold. An exceptional natural phenomenon awaits you in Het Aekingerzand, a beautiful nature area in the Drents-Friese Wold National Park. This area is also called ‘De Kale Duinen’ (The Bald Dunes), due to the extensive sand drifts. There is almost no vegetation, partly due to the sheep that graze here. This gives the sand and wind free rein, resulting in some impressive sand drifts. Tip: climb the observation tower and be amazed by the panoramic views over the sandy plains.
The whole family will enjoy one of the best days out at the Duinen Zathe Traffic and Amusement Park in Drenthe! This all-inclusive amusement park, previously known as Assen Traffic Park, is a short 10-minute drive from the holiday park. Children can have endless fun here on the traffic circuit or the indoor climbing park. There are plenty of fun attractions, such as the incredibly fast Super Nova, the water slide, the Flying Helis (helicopter ride) and the Spooky Haunted House. You’ll find everything here, except a dull moment!

Take a step back in time and visit the historical village of Orvelte! This exceptional village, also called the Primordial Village of Drenthe, is a 20-minute drive from the holiday park. Discover centuries-old crafts during your visit to the Sawmill or the Clog Workshop and enjoy the aroma of freshly baked apple pie or Drenthe ‘kniepertjes’ biscuits in Het Bakkershoes bakery. You can also find out how dairy factories functioned in the old days, and even milk goats yourself in the little 't Melkfebriekie Museum. You can also find out all about the amazing dolmens, the oldest monuments in the Netherlands. The largest dolmen in the Netherlands is right next to the Hunebed Centre, so you can see for yourself the incredible size of these impressive stones.
The city of Groningen is known for its friendly atmosphere and historic charm, so it’s a great destination for a fun trip to a city! This city is a 45-minute drive from Summio Bungalowpark Het Drentse Wold. The Martini Tower, the Groninger Museum and the Prinsenhof are all more than worth visiting. Dwingelderveld National Park is the largest contiguous wet heathland area in Western Europe, where you can enjoy lovely walks and bike rides. There’s a good chance you’ll encounter one of the flocks of sheep here. You can also visit the Drentsche Aa National Park: the best-preserved streams and Angerdorf landscape in Western Europe.
